Taco Bell's Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas feature a mini Chalupa shell covered with a crispy layer of toasted cheddar and a new Chile Lime Crema Sauce. Inside the shell, you'll find the aforementioned sauce along with slow-roasted Cantina chicken or grilled marinated steak, shredded cheddar cheese, onions, and cilantro.
An order includes two Toasted Cheddar Street Chaluapas. I went with the Cantain Chicken version and it cost me $5.69.
The shell on the Street Chalupas is a mini version of the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa that Taco Bell has brought back several times since it was first introduced back in 2019.
As with the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa, the shell offered an enjoyable crackly shell with plenty of toasty cheddar flavor. Underneath the cheese was the fried, slightly chewy, pillowy flatbread of a Chalupa.
However, the meat-to-shell ratio was a bit off. The chicken had a nice, seasoned flavor and meaty texture, but there just wasn't much of it to go around.
The crema tasted like mayo but with a bit of lime to it. It's supposed to be a little spicy, but I didn't pick up any heat.
The onions were very mild but added a nice crisp crunch. There were some flecks of cilantro here and there, so it wasn't doing much either. There was a decent amount of mild shredded cheese though.
Overall, Taco Bell Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas was a miss for me. While the shell was very nice, it was also most of the flavor here given the lack of filling. Additionally, the new sauce wasn't terribly exciting.
