McDonald's Japan Offers Roast Beef and Breaded Cutlets for a Limited Time

McDonald's Japan is offering two special burgers during a limited-time campaign that pits Tokyo against Osaka, including a Twitter voting period to put to rest the McDonald's feud between the two regions.

The Tokyo burger features slices of roast beef whereas Osaka's variation makes a breaded beef cutlet the star.

Taste Test: Dunkin' Donuts Cheese-Topped Donuts

While on a recent trip to Dunkin' Donuts headquarters, they put out a few of their international donuts including their cheese-topped donut from Indonesia. While people weren't exactly jumping for a chance to try it, I had to give it a go.

Around the World: Pizza Hut Offers New Pizza with Two Stuffed Crusts... in the Dominican Republic

For fans of Pizza Hut's Stuffed Crust Pizza, it's pretty cool to have an outer crust with a layer of melted cheese inside. But what if you could have two crusts with cheese inside? Would it be twice as good?

Review: Loacker - Gran Pasticceria Dark-Hazelnut Cookies

Loacker's Gran Pasticceria Dark-Hazelnut Cookies are "fine dark chocolate biscuits with chopped hazelnuts." A "Pasticceria" means "pastry shop" in Italian. They're imported from Italy.

A 3.53-oz box (100g) was $1.99.

Review: Canadian Butter Tarts

My brother recently returned from a business trip to Canada and I requested Butter Tarts because I read that they're a Canadian thing and we don't have them here in the US.

So what is a butter tart? It's basically like a pecan tart but without the pecans and with a runnier filling (no cornstarch).

A 265g supermarket pack of six tarts (he ate one before giving them to me) was $3.89 CAN (~$3.68 US).

Review: Matcha Green Tea Kit Kats

Matcha Green Tea Kit Kat bars are matcha green tea-flavored, white chocolate Kit Kats from Japan.

A 4.91-ounce package of 12 mini-bars was $5.49 at a local Japanese supermarket (if none of your local places offer them and you're looking for them, they're sold on Amazon but are quite a bit pricier at a $9.49).

What a KFC Seafood Menu Might Look Like

KFC Fish and Chips.

KFC doesn't serve seafood here in the US (except occasionally in Hawaii, where they currently offer Fish and Chips for a limited time), but if they decided to introduce a Seafood Menu, here's some inspiration taken from what's currently available at some KFC locations around the world:

Review: Pringles - Paprika Flavor

This canister of Paprika flavor Pringles came to me from my cousin who picked it up in Germany while traveling around Europe. It's actually made in Belgium though.

While it's exclusive to Europe, apparently you can pick them up from an importer on Amazon for a little over $5.

Around the World: McDonald's Canada Selling Coffee for Take Home

McDonald's Canada gets into the home brew coffee market and now offers their McCafe Premium Roast Ground Coffee to take home at participating restaurants.

The coffee comes in a resealable bag and features the same beans they use at McDonald's. Each bag is filled with 340g (12 ounces) of finely ground Arabica coffee bean for $6.99 CA (which is about the same as $6.99 US these days).

Each bag of coffee comes in a special McCafe gift bag (I guess because their regular bags aren't fancy enough...).

Around the World: Pepsi Japan - Fat Blocking Pepsi

Suntory, the Japanese distributor for Pepsi, is set to introduce new "Pepsi Special," which contains indigestible dextrin to reduce the absorption of fat after eating, on November 13, 2012.

The new drink has received the "tokuho" designation (that's the human figure on the bottle that appears to be rejoicing) from the Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency.

The designation is short for "tokutei hokenyou shokuhin" or "food for specified health use" and is earned by foods in Japan where the companies have demonstrated that the food can deliver special health benefits.

Around the World: First Indian Starbucks Store Looks Very Aladdin-ish

Starbucks recently opened their first location in India -- the flagship store in Mumbai with two other stores to open this week.

I have to say though, when I first saw a picture of the flagship store, I immediately thought of Disney's Aladdin; it looks more like something at a Disney resort than a Starbucks no? A firsthand account from Vogue India likened the interior design to that of the Taj Mahal Hotel (Isn't it the analogue to making the European flagship store look like a castle?)

Around the World: Kit Kat Variations

A container of Nestle Kit Kat Ice Cream.
Here in the U.S., we pretty much only get the plain regular Kit Kat bar with some very slight variations (dark chocolate, white chocolate), but the world is vast, so I thought it'd be interesting to look at what Nestle has done with Kit Kats worldwide (in the U.S., Hershey's produces Kit Kats, but for the rest of the world, it's made by Nestle, which might explain our lack of variety here).

In several countries, there's Kit Kat Ice Cream with bite-sized balls of Kit Kat embedded in it, but that's not all...

Around the World: Pizza Hut Middle East - Cone Crust Pizza

They must really like their novelty crusts out in the Middle East. Following up the Crown Crust Pizza (where they had mini burgers baked into the crust), Pizza Hut Middle East's latest menu addition is the new Cone Crust Pizza.

The Cone Crust is a crust option on any pizza where the crust is folded into little cones filled with either cream cheese or honey mustard chicken or an alternating combination of both before baking.

What's on the Menu: Wendy's Malaysia

I ran across the Wendy's Malaysia menu recently and thought you guys might want to have a look. Highlights include sour cream with fries and pasta!

Around the World: Pizza Hut Australia - The Plank

Down in Australia, Pizza Hut is offering a new, limited-time 94-cm (~37 inches) extra long pizza, they're calling "The Plank." Now, The Plank is not actually a 94-centimeter pizza, but rather 3 deep-pan, slab pizzas whose lengths add up to 94 centimeters and are fitted into a 94-centimeter box.

Sunday Funny: Doritos - "The Dip Desperado"

Here's an epic Doritos ad that aired last year in the U.K. It's called "The Dip Desperado" and it chronicles the rise and fall of Esteban Ortega. Check it out:

KFC Singapore Introduces New Shrimp Stars

A box of KFC Shrimp Stars.
I've heard of star-shaped chicken nuggets, but never star-shaped shrimp nuggets so here you go: KFC Singapore just started offering new Shrimp Stars.

KFC Shrimp Stars look to be a good size and are breaded and deep-fried; a good match for KFC. They're offered in a "Snackers" combo deal with 4 Shrimp Stars, fries and a medium drink for 3.95 Singapore Dollars (~$3.15 U.S.).
